Teachers say:

This was my third World Challenge trip. I love this program because it brings so much out of the students, and really immerses them so completely into the culture and daily life of the host country.  World Challenge trips are the ultimate teaching and learning experience, in the ultimate classroom.  They are the most rewarding and inspirational part of my professional life.

Steve, Nantucket High School, MA

Tanzania 2004, Tanzania 2006, India 2008

Kids grow up so much during their high school years, but it’s truly an amazing experience to watch it happen before your very eyes. I’ve never gained more respect for a group of people than I did for the teenagers turned young adults that I went away with.

Stephen, Newton North High School, MA

Tanzania 2006, Peru 2008

My World Challenge Expeditions appointed leader exceeded my expectations!  He was incredibly capable, safety-oriented, fun and supported both me and the students along the way, while allowing them the space to learn and grow.  We were extremely fortunate to have him on our trip.

Lisa, Andover High School
India 2008

This was an amazing experience. Watching the students take control of our travel, food and lodging was so exciting, and watching them grow and work together was incredible. The skills and confidence that they gained on this trip will truly serve them for the rest of their lives.

Kim, Ayer High School, MA

Students say:

If you're not sure about doing a trip, take the challenge and go for it!  It's totally worth it in the end to be able to say you did something so unique; and learning about the culture and people of a country firsthand is ten times better than reading about it in a textbook.  You'll have no regrets.

Rachel Beebe, India 2008
Hingham High School, MA

I could not have had a better trip!  I can only hope to relive what I experienced in the past month in my dreams.  These past 30 days have accented my skills, shown qualities I never knew I had and enabled me to achieve goals while being challenged...and I was able to sleep above the clouds!  I had so much fun being immersed in another culture and creating friendships that I will have forever.  This trip was more than I could have dreamed of, I would surely go on another World Challenge expedition in a heartbeat!

Emily Cardenas, Argentina 2008
Swampscott High School, MA

After being in South Africa for one month, I've witnessed such extreme generosity from the people here, especially during the community service project phase.  They welcome you into their community, amazed by where we come from and who we are, and in turn we were amazed by them; they are so similar to us, even though they lead completely different lives.  We even sang some American pop music together.

Emma Hershey, South Africa 2008
Dover-Sherborn High School, MA

I really loved the trekking phase. We got to bond as a team, sharing tents, climbing rocky hillsides, crossing rivers. We not only got to do that, but our guide, cook and assistants were great.  On this trip I pushed myself and found out that I can do more than I thought I could and know myself a bit better too.

Avery Beck, India 2008
Horace Greeley High School, NY

I have been on many trips before but I feel this trip really put me in a totally new position.  Every member was put into a leading role where they were responsible for the group as a whole in a totally new environment.  This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and experience a completely foreign culture in a way we never would on any ordinary trip.

Nathan Coles, Peru 2008
Needham High School, MA

Making your own trail through the mountains of Africa next to barking baboons...what else compares?  Watching the girls of Lesotho come out of their hiding places to play netball on the court we just built.  Seeing it all on TV is one thing but touching it, smelling it and just experiencing it and being able to bring it back home is another even more amazing thing.

Sean Greer, South Africa 2008
Atascocita High School, TX

It is impossible to describe all the ways in which I've changed in the past month, especially when it feels like it's only been 3 days.  Coming into the trip, I was excited but hesitant, not sure of exactly what to expect.  Looking back on the trip, I can't believe I had any doubts.  Each day was an experience, a memory, and a stepping stone to a new, more mature and developed me.

Kimberly Gillies, Peru 2008
Newton North High School, MA

Every moment of every single day of the expedition was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. When I think about what I would do differently I can honestly say I wouldn’t change a thing. I only wish more people could experience all that we did in the past month. I’m genuinely sad to be going back to real life. World Challenge is awesome!

Shannon Reiser, India 2008
Hingham High School, MA

This trip has made me more independent.  It has also taught me so many things about myself, other people and Costa Rican culture.  It was an amazing trip that was even more special because we were able to plan it ourselves.

Morganne Gagne, Costa Rica 2008
Medfield High School, MA

This trip was the most awesome and amazing experience of my life.  This trip proved to me how independent, strong and resourceful I am and for that I am truly grateful.

Megan Ware, India 2008
Wellesley High School, MA

My expedition was easily the best experience in my life to date. It wasn’t some guided tour where a tour guide told you what to do and see, we did it all ourselves. When there was an issue, we didn’t just look to the nearest adult, we solved it ourselves.

Helen Alesbury, South Africa 2005
Acton Boxborough Regional High School, MA

I never expected such a diverse, odd group of students to go on such a trip together because none of us knew each other to begin with. But by the time we left South Africa, we had become such a family it was heart breaking to separate.

Andrea Bonaiuto, South Africa 2006
Needham High School, MA

Living in such an interesting culture was an amazing experience. If I were asked to do it again, I would say ‘Yes,’ I would say ‛Yes’ 100 times over. I can’t say enough good things about this trip, it was indescribable.

Patrick Harkness, Ecuador 2005
Lynn Classical High School, MA

Principals say:

This is a program which builds confidence based on responsibility, expands horizons, and encourages understanding of the diversity in our world. The service component sets it apart from others, giving students an appreciation of the tremendous need that exists and their ability to take one small step in meeting that need.

Rena Mirkin, Principal, Wellesley High School, MA
Tanzania 2002, Thailand 2004, Namibia 2006, India 2008

The primary concern of any headmaster is the safety and well-being of the students and staff involved. The professionalism of World Challenge has been exemplary. At each stage we have benefited from meticulous planning, thorough briefings and comprehensive risk assessment. We are clear as to the safety and back up-systems and, just as importantly, so are the parents of the participants.

Michael Chapman, Headmaster, Driffield School
Brazil 2004

Parents say:

A truly worthwhile experience, from raising the first dollar to returning home with so many memories. Along the way, many life skills were learned and friendships bonded. A different continent meant a very different culture seen with his own eyes.

Mrs. Jackson, mother of Rory Jackson
The John Lyon School
